Our IN UNIFORM SPOTLIGHT is Allyson Krause. Thanks Allyson for all of your tireless work in the HEALTHCARE industry and for letting us REBELS' get to learn more about you and your professional contribution to the community!

How long have you been a Respiratory Therapist in Tallahassee (Leon County) and where do you practice?

I graduated in 2004 from Tallahassee Community College and began my respiratory therapy career at UF Health at Shands in Gainesville.  I have been actively providing care to Leon County and surrounding areas for 16 years. Currently I am an Organ Procurement Coordinator with LifeQuest Organ Recovery Services.

How did you know you wanted to be a Respiratory Therapist?

I was so interested in the medical field and felt a calling that became stronger as I got older.  I had an established career at the time I decided to go back to school.  I quit my full time job and applied to Respiratory Therapy School at TCC.  It is a decision that I have always been so thankful I made and had the opportunity to experience.

What has been the most rewarding aspect of your job?

As a Respiratory Therapist you interact with such a wide variety of areas in the hospital as well as different patient populations sometimes in just one shift.  I love the ability to adapt to that kind of change at my job…..Never a dull moment!

Since I have become involved with organ donation I enjoy educating about donation as well as knowing that everyday when I go to work in some small way I have participated in giving someone a second chance at life with the gift of donation.  I get to admire the strength in others that during the worst moments in losing a loved one they have the ability to think of others through donation.  That is certainly a special thing to witness.

Do you have any suggestions for young people who are interested in the medical field?

I think that pursuing a medical career is a powerful choice.  I think that there is always change and advancement in the care we can provide our community.  I think now more than ever we get to shed a light on the impact ANY position in the medical field can have on those sick patients. There are so many choices and specialties to choose from that I encourage anyone to “Aim for the Stars” when it comes to choosing this career….it’s certainly possible.

What has been the most challenging aspect of providing care during this time of COVID19 and quarantine?  what have you found that has allowed you to overcome those challenges?

I have been so proud of the team that I am a part of during these last few months.  First I would like to say that I am so proud of all our Medical staff in this community and around the world.  We certainly have come together and fought hard.  I am proud of my specialty in Respiratory Care and that without my fellow RT’s the survival of some of these patient’s might have had a different outcome.  My fellow RT’s are strong and very well educated in their job.  Working alongside our RN’s and MD’s make us proud and glad to be a part of the team.

I feel the biggest challenge of this whole experience has been the unknown.  I am thankful for the physicians in our community that have worked so hard to educate us on safe practices and helping to find positive solutions for our safety as a whole.

I have been very honored to work in the field of donation during this pandemic and to see that we have successfully continued organ donation and continued to fulfill our commitment to those in need of life saving transplants!

How would you describe your 'fashion’ style when not on duty?

I’m not sure how I would describe my fashion…..I like casual comfortable clothes, but I enjoy a great dress and heels, to a great pair of jeans and sweat shirt! I love jewelry and always love a great handbag!

As a Rebels’ customer, what are your favorite purchases?

I love to find great handbags, jewelry and gifts….My Rebel girls are my “go to” for every kind of occasion!

What do you enjoy most about living in the Tallahassee area?

I was born and raised in Tallahassee.  It is my most favorite place.  I think that we have an amazing and supportive community.
